ABM Architects was commissioned to update the master plan for the old St Columban’s site at Clayfield. The planning included the repurposing of the heritage listed “Whytecliffe” building along with the design and documentation of a new independent living (ILU) building.
Whytecliffe was adapted for residents’ support and recreational uses. This building was the former living quarters of the teaching clergy and the reuse has enabled it to become the centrepiece of the development. It now enjoys a busy new life as the community centre, containing dining and function rooms, accommodating up to 200 people.
The new ILU building comprises of 46 apartments over 6 storeys. Its design is sympathetic to Whytecliffe by adopting a similar colour palette, level proportions and curtilage lines. ABM Architects’ understanding of contemporary planning and design for seniors living delivered this project to meet the high standard set by the client.
ABM Architects designed, documented and assisted the construction management process.
