ABM Architects in a joint venture with Cox Rayner Architects, were successful in a select group design competition and subsequent documentation for the master planning, concept design and documentation for a fully integrated complex including 5 district courts, 8 magistrates courts, chamber facilities, a secure 4 tier circulation system including secure jury access, and an integrated watchhouse and police station.
A clear legible function plan and sensitivity to the competing demands of circulation security, natural day lighting and views to all work and significant spaces, overlaid on a tight inner city site, resulted in a successful design that was described by the client as ‘intuitive in the way that the building supports the operations and vision of the Justice Department’.2010 AIA Regional Architecture Award Darling Downs.
